Wuvable Oaf Gallery Show

Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy taking down the JH Williams III gallery of original BATWOMAN art that the Isotope had proudly been displaying since the end of last year. And once we did, what could we possibly hang next? I mean, seriously, how do you follow up a show with artwork from one of the greatest DC Comics ever produced?!

Here’s how – with work from my absolute favorite self-published comic being made today… Ed Luce‘s WUVABLE OAF!

If you haven’t checked out the beauty that is WUVABLE OAF yet, you definitely should. I like telling people it’s the “Scott Pilgrim of queer comics” as this series is simply chocked full of charming art, smile-inducing awkward romance, hilariously hip jokes, great moments of killer rock and roll, and downright loveable characters. It definitely gets my highest recommendation!

And here at the Isotope you can come see Luce’s original Oaf production pages, hand-painted canvases, never before seen Kerry King Rawk Gawdz art, & (of course) those Henry & Glenn prints that everybody loves so much.

Check out these and more of Ed’s photos from the gallery hanging over the weekend over on the Oaf Tumblr Blog.

Featuring BATWOMAN @ Isotope
w/ JH Williams III & W. Haden Blackman
Saturday, December 3rd 2011

DC Comics celebrates the incredible creativity behind The New 52 with superstars, artwork and events at a store near you with The New 52 Art Tour!

In honor of this historical event the Isotope and DC Comics proudly present JH Williams III and W. Haden Blackman for a BATWOMAN signing, celebration, and original art installation. Meet the creators behind this gorgeous and critically acclaimed new series for a duo of once-in-a-lifetime events. Take an uncommon look at The New 52 Art Tour Portfolio, including six 11×17 sets of artwork (from script to inks to the final full-color production pages), including a three piece BATWOMAN collection. And on display for the entire month of December in the Isotope’s legendary original art gallery will be every page of JH Williams III’s hand-drawn artwork for BATWOMAN issue #3. These pages will only be displayed together for the public this one time, and nowhere else on the planet.

And for those of you who want to add some original BATWOMAN, PROMETHEA, DESOLATION JONES, SEVEN SOLDIERS or BATMAN artwork to your collections, JH Williams III will have portfolios available all day long, jam packed with some of the most gorgeous original art pages you will ever see. As always, we’re happy to do our part to help you skip scummy art dealers and overpriced galleries and to buy directly from the industry’s best artists. All proceeds go to Mister Williams.

Your Passport to Great Art

The San Francisco Arts Commission and wonderfully talented cartoonist Jamaica Dyer are teaming up with the Isotope for PASSPORT 2010, a multi-venue art crawl and unique do-it-yourself art collecting experience.

This 2nd annual public art event takes participants on a neighborhood stroll of SF’s sexiest and most stylish venues to collect artist-designed “passport stamps” in a special booklet that, once complete, becomes a limited-edition Moleskine passport art book with original work by some of the Bay Area’s finest artists, both established and emerging.

Of course, my staff and I know a thing or two about the SF Bay Area’s finest artists, and we’re particularly thrilled to be featuring one of our favorites, Jamaica Dyer of Weird Fishes fame. This event kicks off a gallery show featuring lots of Jamaica’s original paintings adorning the Isotope walls into December. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see what she’s going to be dazzling us with!
